Aerial assault course … Mountain biking … canoeing in one place … and in Northamptonshire!!??

From the first days of this site, early 1980’s, the outdoor activity centre in the heart of England has been a hub of excitement & happy memories for years. I should know. I, Pete Biz (Team Chariot), was one of the first instructors.
Frontier Camp, now Frontier Centre (owned by Rock UK), has supplied all ages with an outdoor experience of exhilarating adventure covering land, water & heights. Not forgetting the indoor activities, that include a sports hall with world class climbing walls.

However, it’s not just a physical benefit to be had. Every month there’s correspondence from previous groups sharing their excitement & fun had while at FC (Frontier Centre). Stories range from helping each person overcome fears & anxieties while under the careful protection of FC instructors & staff, to building friendships with classmates & colleagues. These experiences even creating new courage & determination to face everyday life back home.
Children tell of how they remember the lessons learned along with fun, laughter & excitement and how they wish school was like that.
Other stories tell of difficult & disruptive children that found another way of expressing their contribution to life through outdoor activities, something that the common teaching syllabus & methods can’t provide. Teachers recognising a new outlook from a child after experiencing a different situation while participating in an activity like abseiling or raft building. Who knew the disruptive child in the class just needed to feel useful to have a better behaviour in school (something I personally witnessed years ago).
Though FC is mainly set up for child groups, even adult groups respond with grateful testimony of the time spent at the centre. How other activities like teambuilding exercises have developed a new understanding & appreciation of work colleagues, even to the point of cutting others a bit of slack in real-life stressful work situations.
Such a treasure chest of jewels, as staff at FC direct sessions not just for fun but also to bring a new level of equipping when groups go back to their routine lifestyles & daily life.
So, who are Rock UK? They began over 100 years ago when some Sunday school teachers identified a need for their young people in London to go on a camp in the countryside. In 1922 they purchased a house in Littlehampton, West Sussex, and started holiday camps.
Since those early days their mission remains the same – To transform young lives …. plus those slightly older.
Rock UK now has four centres across the UK: Frontier Centre, Northamptonshire; Carroty Wood in Kent; Summit Centre in South Wales and Whithaugh Park in the Scottish Borders.
